Description
Two disciples of Jesus stand at a village doorway beside a young donkey, speaking with the owner as they obey the Lord’s instruction to untie the colt and bring it to Him. The stone house, shaded road, and hills beyond evoke the approach to Bethphage, Bethany, and Jerusalem near the Mount of Olives. The scene captures the quiet moment before the Triumphal Entry, when ordinary obedience prepares the way for the public revelation of Christ as the humble King. In the Gospel accounts, the disciples answer the question, “Why are you untying it?” with the simple declaration that the Lord has need of it. The colt becomes a sign of messianic fulfillment, recalling the prophecy of Zion’s king coming gently, mounted on a donkey. This artwork serves church teaching on Palm Sunday, discipleship, obedience, fulfilled prophecy, and the beginning of Passion Week.
